Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at DecoratorsBest!!
Grey is far from boring in this modern monochromatic room!
Monochromatic decorating uses a single color in a room, often in varying shades. We like the retro, yet modern vibe of this green living room.
Happy Monday! This week we’re taking on the monochromatic trend. Love this purple on purple!!
The forecast is in! Monochromatic decor is expected to be a big trend again! This color scheme, which uses one singular hue throughout an entire room, packs major impact. Check out our must-know tips for going monochromatic:
Tip #1: Use Different Shades & Textures
A monochromatic color scheme looks best when you layer different shades and textures. Rather than falling flat, doing this will create a more dimensional look. Here, a sitting room looks luxurious with a range of greys from dove to charcoal in velvet, leather and wool.
Tip #2: Soften it with a Neutral
If you do decide to use a single shade in a room, cut it with a neutral so that the eye knows where to go. Here, we see a fresh take on monochromatic, where the grey sofa anchors the space and becomes a focal point.
Tip #3: Play with Pattern
In addition to layered textures, adding patterns that contain shades of the color you’re using in a monochromatic room will break up the solids. We like how this kitchen, painted a striking shade of solid blue, uses a bold geometric pattern on the built-in banquette seating.
Here we see the how the color purple is enlivened with a raised wall covered in a trellis pattern. It still blends well with the space and emphasizes the 3D aspect.
Tip #4: Break the Rules
The old adage that “rules are made for breaking” applies to decorating, too! It’s your place, and you’re living with it every day so, above all, choose pieces that feel right to you. If your gut is telling you to add a contrasting, colorful geometric or floral to a monochromatic room, go right ahead!
